Black Women, Beauty Salons & Building Wealth
The neighborhood beauty salon is a business staple in most black communities. Stroll by the window, glance inside and you'll see women in every stage of being "done" -getting shampooed, blow-dried, relaxed, braided.
What you can't see just by peeking in the windows, are the stories of inspiration and entrepreneurial success that the owners of these establishments, usually black females, have created, often against seemingly insurmountable odds.
Some of these "community-based" salons which started out on a small, boot-strapping basis, have expanded in both size and scope, growing into full-scale businesses that provide a wide range of services in high-traffic metropolitan areas.
These women are taking care of business, living their dreams and building wealth, all with a cut, color, shampoo. Explore this phenomenon through an article here. Hear from women living the Beauty Salon Biz dream here.
